With great excitement, I am traveling to Italy to visit the town of Reggio Emilia. This is where the renowned Reggio Emilia Early Childhood pedagogy was formed and is alive and well. This past school year, I have been part of a professional development cohort. I have observed several "Reggio Emilia Inspired" classrooms locally, and attended workshops regarding the basic principles and practices of the Reggio approach. Spending time there will provide me with a greater understanding of how Moses Brown’s Early Childhood program can benefit from this philosophy.
While there I plan to do the following:
- Spend time at the Loris Malaguzzi International
Centre, where exhibitions of young children’s artwork are on display.
- Visit an installation that has an English guided
tour called the "Atelier Ray of
Light"
- Learn more about the documentation process of the
students’ work
- Speak one on one with an administrator at the
Malaguzzi Centre
- Travel to the Apennines Mountains to see the
alternative site where teachers train in the Reggio Emilia approach.
